SAN FRANCISCO’S LARGEST NATURAL STONE DISTRIBUTOR UNVEILS GREEN POLICY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brisbane, California — Integrated Resources Group, Inc. (IRG), Northern California’s largest stone importer and distributor, unveiled their new environmental policy today. The company’s initiatives will address environmental issues such as carbon offsets for local operation and global transportation.
“Natural stone is an abundant and recyclable resource, and we’re proud to be a part of the green building movement,” states founder Dilmohan Chadha. “Our goal is to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible.”
Stone is environmentally responsible and a preferred material in sustainable building. Chemicals are not used in the quarrying or fabricating process, and natural stone is non-toxic and void of foreign substances. It is also known for its durability, minimal upkeep, and reusability. The sealers and adhesive used in installation are also non-toxic.
IRG has partnered with Carbon Fund to calculate and offset the carbon emissions from their California operations through support of reforestation projects. “We are offsetting all our local energy use, including the carbon from our employee’s commutes,” said Chadha.
IRG chose Terrapass to offset their products’ carbon footprint, including energy used in quarrying and global transportation. “Although container ships are more fuel efficient on a per mile basis than a semi-trailer, our products come from around the world and it’s imperative to account for that energy use,” states Chadha. “We are also monitoring the environmental policies of the shipping companies we use.”
The transition to green has not been without its stumbling blocks. One of Chadha’s initial ideas was to add solar to his showrooms. “When we saw the estimate of $1 million, I knew we’d have to wait until the technology was more affordable before we went down that road.”
IRG also sources green office supplies and recycles its pallets.
In the future, Chadha wants to go even farther. His plans include closing the lifecycle loop by initiating a program for reclaiming and recycling stone products. An environmental awareness program that includes education and incentives for employees is also in the works.
As a member of the Marble Institute of America, IRG is also working with the Natural Stone Council as green industry standards solidify. “The combined efforts of the everyone along the supply chain is phenomenal,” said Chadha. “We’re thrilled to do our part.”
